Insomniac Idealist

Rishikanth is my name. The blog is to my ideas and views on anything possible.

Am studying in Bangalore as of now and up to making films and animation.

Traveling and nature are my interest.

Will keep posting so hang on.

India Game Development Summit.

#igds Neither am I a hard core gamer nor am do I have any knowledge on game development but since i am studying animation and being from such internet and entertainment interested  background (games i would categorize in entertainment) so it justified why I wanted to attend the summit.

Game development knowledge, game developers and exposure was what I was looking for.

I made my way along with 3 other friends of mine who, in my terms , fit the hardcore gaming category and we reached around 9.25 AM. It was very interesting to notice, that the program actually started on. I was very much astonished for that matter because for most of the school seminars and other educational or technical ones I attend, they never start on time. Another thing I dig was that there were no special guest or a chief guest. That saved a whole lot of garbage talk.  It kicked off with a lady, sorry i didn’t get your name, directly introducing the crowd to Carl Jones from Crytek.

Carl Jones. Man what a keynote he gave. WOAH. I mean there are speakers who keep speaking and get you bored to such an extent you fall to sleep. He was the direct opposite of it. The stuff he spoke about really inspired my confidence and also this was the first turning point of my interests into game development. His dialogue like “Throw Away the design documents. It never works” and ” at Crytek, Difficult takes a day, Impossible takes a week”.  Brilliant, Simply brilliant.

And now I will “ENVISION, ENABLE AND ACHIEVE”

Once that was over I was off ,a coffee break read my schedule and off I was to have a coffee but instead had a Red Bull, never found the coffee you see.

I have a personal opinion on the Red Bull girls, I know that they are hot and all but why in god’s name do they act as if they care. Why do they talk to strangers while giving them the RED BULL. Dint their parents teach them anything???(am being sarcastic). hmph.  They made my day though.

I followed it up with “Creating Successful Online Gaming - Robin Alter”. A educational session I must say. Basically he talked about how Kreeda’s( a social gaming studio) production Pipeline and various ways to improve social gaming along with being cost beneficial and customer friendly. This I must say interested me a lot because of its similarity to the animation film pipeline.  One thing, that I did notice between Carl Jones (the previous speaker) and Robin Alter(Current Speaker) I’ve been listening to was that Carl spoke about how to not depend on the design documents where as Robin spoke about how to maintain a Hugh design bible and it very importance. Perspective is always an issue.

I stepped into the Adobe presentation by H Shivaramakrishnan next.  His session I must say was very proactive and educational on how Adobe supports everything required in a pipeline right from sketching it to selling it. Neat presentation I must say and I had a good time playing Sudoku. :) The thing was that it was too hard for me to digest all the information he provided because of my lack of preparation as being an audience, that I was expecting more of how to rather than what it can do and the fact that am studying animation so it clearly wasn’t the right call to sit there. But he did make me learn more about it and its uses. I’m sure that in the near future I will be using all of those products. :D

The next session was the Quality Asset Management and Sound for a game. One of the best session of the day I must say from my perspective that is. The way he spoke, was very clear that it almost made sense to every person regardless of which department they were involved in. Never knew about the cocktail effect and two and half themes until the time he spoke about them. I will surely be incorporating them somewhere.

Lunch was good. Good enough to fill the empty stomach I must say. And it was even more eventful when a Kreeda HR came in and asked about my friends and I. She told us to drop in our portfolio’s if we were interested. THAT IS LIKE

My next destination was the game design session and it was pathetic. It was as if he was talking to himself and pitching dsk supinfocom to the gods of the west. Never made any sense to me. Sorry.

I got  out of there early enough to get another drink of red bull and THEN AGAIN THEY TALKED(the red bull girls. The deceiving looking girls with devil horns. You know what  I’m talking about) . I replied but got away before their aura could take control of me. MUHAHAHA(Again reminding you that am trying to  be sarcastic).

I went into the Great Indian Social Gaming Rush next and then my head started rattling with ideas, you know the cloud effect where you dream in the clouds of how you earn, become rich, enjoy life, have a great family and stuff like that. That popped into my head when he was taking us through the figures. He didn’t give a defined reply to the questions the audience asked but he directed us towards our answers.

Now that I am writing it, I feel so back in time, so out of place. Why couldn’t I think of it before. ARGHH!!…My heads are still rolling on what he talked about.

I stuck in my seat from the last session and sat through the “The Creative Core Team”. That speaker has some big time ego problems. It was always like ME, MY team, I. Not a great role model i see. Well all he did was go through the pipeline and the way things works at Ubisoft. Informative in a way that they have something called a CORE TEAM and he did bring some light into how we in class could work out on some issues.

And then it ended…..Sigh…..

I had a great time. The internet connection was very unstable but for whatever was available i did make the best use of it. The people around the whole place were amazing. I mean there were no ego clashes, no ideology differences, people were talking and having a good time at it. Very nice to see talks inspiring the rest like me. Had a great day. Salt March should have more event based on Game Dev. I’d surely come and better prepared.

I have a question. Why was there a Ball( the huge thing which you use for while working out) right in the centre of the Hall A stage??:?:?

Thanks to my friends who gave me company almost through the whole time and the ride. Thanks to all the people for making a event. Thanks  Salt March.

Cheers.
